This past Saturday we had a great morning. The Friends of Carolina Sandhills Refuge hosted a Youth Fishing Day at local Oxpen Lake. They provided poles, bail and tackle to any local child under the age of 16. Prizes were awarded for first fish, largest fish, and most fish caught. The local game wardens stocked the local lake so children were almost guaranteed a catch. (Its always more fun when you catch a fish.)
The highlight of the morning was Kent's catch of the day. It was his first caught fish EVER. The smile on his face was priceless as he hooked the fish and then reeled it in. He made sure he told EVERYONE about his first catch ever.
Hunter also had a successful day. Hunter caught five fish. He would have stayed out on the lake all day if we let him. Hunter is defiantly my outdoor boy.
After the morning of fishing we were treated to a lunch of burgers and hot dogs and were given great goody bags full of use full fishing items and coloring books. My kids are already talking about next years derby. Its so great we the community has such great days for our children.

Looks like a great day! Love the smiles. I'm not so much into fishing these days, but I loved to go with my family when I was young.
